He joined the military in the early 90's, where while in between serving operational tours continued to train and play a high enough standard to represent the Royal Navy and respective departments at different times both in football (Southern Counties Cup Competition and the Inter Regional Competition) and rugby (South West Division / South West Premier). For extended periods of time, his primary duties were to represent a specific branch which would entail drafting to their dedicated sports training facilities.
After 12 years Alex left due to a lower limb injury. He was however able to utilize the training he received to continue being heavily involved in sports albeit certain limitations. Having qualified as a Systems Analyst Alex thus joined the IT industry, which ended up taking him to Alberta.
After relocating to Alberta, Alex started playing rugby locally (ERU 1/2). At the same time, he was asked to offer his football experience to help coach within the EMSA and Eiysa youth soccer organizations; in different capacities including that of head coach. He is now also coaching multiple teams within EDSA (both men and women). From Men’s Division 1 to Women’s Classics, while playing on various men’s teams in EDSA and the VMSL.
Amongst both youth & adult teams, Alex has successfully played on and coached league winning sides for many seasons, including a provincial medalist’s team.
In addition, Alex now teaches and coaches what he has learnt on a one to one and group basis for both youth and adult individuals/clubs throughout the Edmonton area.
